When Hayato found himself back in his world, alone, he naturally had written off what happened at the manor as a dream... but at the same time... he couldn’t help but feel the pangs of heartbreak. He felt stupid for falling for something that had to have been a dream.... but the idea of having someone that loved him for just being him... it... it was too good to be true... but didn’t matter now. He had to push his feelings aside. His future self had failed the Tenth, now he was in the future with his boss to try to prevent this from happening. But it wasn’t easy, the Vongola were being hunted for their Vongola rings by the Millefiore family. While he didn't want to admit it... he was scared. He had already failed the Tenth once, he was in this strange foreign world where there was a price on his head, and to top it all off he had lost the boy who loved him.... naturally his mood had taken a SPECIAL turn south. He had already lashed out on Yamamoto a few times. Now him and the baseball idiot were screwed into an all knew lifetime because he lost his temper. One of the Millefiore generals had engaged them in a fight, Yamamoto was down, and now Hayato was being toyed with by Gamma. The man had him pinned on the ground, stepping on his hand until their was a sickening crack. Hayato screamed in agony but refused to say a word... he would gladly die for his boss’s sake. This was all his fault to begin with. If he hadn’t acted out... if his future self hadn’t failed his boss....

Hayato nodded again obediently, and did what he was told... he was quite precise about it, but at least he did NOT count the individual grains of rice.

So he walked up to his boyfriend with the two bowl, awaiting further instruction.

Phew, at least one step went over flawlessly. And they were getting closer to finishing this. Ryuutaro was very sure after all, that one shouldn't feel this nervous just cooking with someone overenthusiastic.

He put the Sata Andagi out of the water himself, while further instructing Hayato.
"Now the natto over there needs to be mixed with the soy sauce. We're almost done."

And then Hayato would definitely need to get rid of that flour all over him, as adorable as it might look.

"Got it!"

And Hayato walks over to the soy sauce and natto, and poured it in with the sauce and worked on mixing it... and once again struggled to stir it. Though that may be because he's holding the spoon at an awkward angle as he stirs... or maybe it's because he's trying to focus on a several other things while he's stirring.

Regardless, it's getting messy again.

Messy was not too bad, compared to other things that could possibly happen so Ryuutaro left it at that. While cutting some shallots he occasionally - no actually quite often- looked over, suddenly realized just how odd this should look if you compared it to Hayato's usual behavior, skills, everything.
Suddenly he had to smile. To him this came just a bit more naturally then it would be reasonable. And that was amazing in it's own way.

"That's it, then. We just need to put this on the natto and we'll be finished. We should probably eat before we clean up, seeing how hungry you must be..."

Hayato obediently brought over his mixture and held it out to his boyfriend to do what was needed.

"Sounds good to me, I could eat a friggin' horse!"

He laughed a little as he spoke, clearly excited to eat. This was the first time he actually made something with someone else!

...this was also the first time he made something potentially edible to people.

And nothing seriously dangerous had happened. It seemed like they really got over with this quite well. Ryuutaro was pleased.
He sat down at the table together with Hayato after putting our the tablewere.

What would the meals be like when things returned to this world's normal? Ryuutaro couldn't help, but wonder. Staying here probably meant that they would finally move in with each other properly - for the time Ryuutaro decided to spent at the same place before going on trips for a while, if he could do so again.

"Let's eat!", he said, definitely not letting go of Japanese habits like that.

Hayato nods again and takes up the chopsticks... and uses all the self-control he has to not start shoveling food into his mouth at rapid speeds. He was STARVING and this food... well it was naturally amazing. Between the fact that Ryuutaro's cooking was always good, and the fact that they made it together, there was no way it could possibly taste bad.

Hayato managed to pull himself away from the food for a moment to look up at his boyfriend with a big genuine smile.

"It's really good!"

Ryuutaro himself ate slowly and too not much either. He didn't feel too hungry, rarely did, actually. Even though yes, this did taste nice, he had to agree.

Looking up at Hayato, he smiled. "It is."

If Hayato knew how adorable he looked right now, just like this, dirty, eating, smiling. A part of Ryuutaro wanted to comment though that some cleaning up was really in order now.

It didn't take long for Hayato to finish, oblivious to how Ryuutaro felt about his appearance. Though the smile didn't leave his face while he ate. This was the best meal he's had in a while. Between dodging Bianchi's food and whatever he grabbed in the kitchen (he rarely ate the food Haru and Kyoko made) he didn't get meals like this often.

When he was finally done, he sat back and let out a content sigh.

"That... was amazing..."

Ryuutaro finished at about the same time, having eaten considerably less than Hayato. He felt relaxed. In this casual sweet time together his prior tenseness had vanished, gloomy thoughts going back into the depth of his mind.

"And quite entertaining to make", he smirked.

Hayato beamed back, his heart fluttering again. Ryuutaro had fun making it too then!

"It was fun wasn't it? I... don't usually make food... at least nothing people could actually eat..."

He laughed a bit, and absentmindedly rubbed his eye with the palm of his hand sleepily... smudging some of the flour on his face. He's oblivious to all of this though.

"I can't help but say, I noticed some of that...", Ryuutaro chuckled a bit, eyeing Hayato's ... uh... skin decoration? He still didn't get how Hayato could possibly be that clumsy about something simple as cooking. How did he manage to survive on his own anyway?

"You might really want to clean yourself up sometime soon..."

"Guess it runs in the family, at least I'm not as bad as my sister."

Then Hayato looked down at his shirt, and then promptly pulled it off over his head. At the dinner table. Such class. He did have a tanktop on underneath though, so at least it wasn't full frontal bare chest nudity... though he doubted Ryuutaro cared even if it was.

and he wiped his hands off on his shirt. There. Clean and keeping it classy.

If they'd only known each other shortly and not over years, Ryuutaro would have minded this a lot. By now all he had was a small sigh, he was used to Hayato and could basically forgive most failures in etiquette easily.

"That's... one way to do it. But with such negligent ways you're missing out on details..."
Ryuutaro leaned forward reached out to softly wipe the flour of Hayato's face as well.

"Hm?"

He leaned forward as well to meet Ryuutaro's hand, and allowed his boyfriend to ~~mother~~ brush off his face. If he were the type to muse on such things he would wonder at what point he allowed Ryuutaro to coddle him like a child...

but alas he wasn't, and therefore didn't give a crap. This was Ryuutaro, he could do whatever he wanted with him.

Ryuutaro smiled, deciding not to comment on the flour that was still in Hayato's hair for now. His boyfriend had been through a rough day, for once cleanliness could wait.
This moment was just a bit too peaceful though to make the prior drama seem real. Why couldn't it always be like this? He'd gladly spent such cliché couple time together more often.
It felt really good.

Then he glanced back at the kitchen and sighed.
"I'm afraid there is some clean-up waiting for us..."

Hayato leaned back and took the bandanna off his head, well at least it kept his hair from getting in the food... albeit not the other way around. It was going to be fun washing white powder out of his silver hair.

He didn't care for now though. He took his plate and Ryuutaro's with the intent to wash them, he knew he could at least do THAT much.

"I don't mind! I'll wash the dishes."

And with that he walked over to the sink to prepare it, leaving his clothes on the chair.

Ryuutaro was quite thankful for this. This way he wouldn't have to do it... Because while he didn't mind using his hands for such things, he didn't enjoy it either.
"Alright, I'll tidy up the unused ingredients in the meantime."

It still felt a bit odd to just work together with someone like this, even if it was just about something as silly as cooking, but not overly so.
This was usual. They were together, they were... family in that sense.

And Hayato does seem to be at least half-way decent at dishes... sorta.

...well he only broke two.

This boy will never be anyone's wife. Ever. Sorry Ryuutaro, you are forever the wife of this relationship... though at least give the boy points for trying.

So AFTER CLEANING UP HIS OTHER MESS, he grabbed his clothes and walked over to Ryuutaro walking up behind him and just snuggling up to him. Oh how he had missed this...

Ryuutaro was willing to look over Hayato's complete incompetence in the kitchen. Well, at least he did not comment. Just raised an eyebrow and chuckled silently.
'How does he manage to live on his own?' was a question still very present in his mind.

As Hayato hugged him, he smiled (not that Hayato could see, once again).
"Feeling better?"

He smiled and nodded, nuzzling his head against Ryuutaro's affectionately.

"Yeah..." and another yawn, "much better..."

Now he was tired.... He didn't WANT to be tired, he wanted to stay like this with his boyfriend. It was only two days that they had been separated- but STILL! It felt longer.

He hadn't really realized just how much time he spent with Ryuutaro, it just... felt so natural. He knew that would have to change when they got back... what with Hayato going back to school and his business with the Vongola. It was an intimidating thought, going back to his old schedule. At least back home they wouldn't have to rely quite so heavily on each other. No more author plots trying to get into their heads or trying to get them killed. So he supposed they wouldn't NEED each other as much...

... none of this was making the idea any more appealing to him... but...

But then, there's the idea of coming home to Ryuutaro every day from now on. They could meet after school, and they could go on dates and everything will be kind of normal! This was it. No more Author. He heaved a sigh of relief. They had made it through one hurdle at least. They could make it over this one too.

Ryuutaro slowly turned around inside Hayato's arms so that he could wrap his arms around his boyfriend as well.
Things felt so much more like they were fine now. The last hour had just been so nice, he could almost have forgotten where they were and what just happened.
It was good to know that there were moments like this to make up for all the pain this world had caused him and would cause him in the future.
Because even if Hayato pretended he had a choice, he most likely hadn't.
Ryuutaro was almost thankful for it. Following fate was so easy and... All the time at the Manor he always wondered what he wanted. If he wanted to return home at all, because that would most likely mean live without Hayato.

"You should go and rest some then...", Ryuutaro said silently, his voice even more muffled by the fact that his head was leaning against Hayato's chest.

"I'm not tired... I can stay up."

He didn't want to move from this position. It was just so warm, and wonderful- and for the moment- Ryuutaro was okay. That was the most important thing. He was afraid, if he broke this... Ryuutaro might crumble again. He knew this was a stupid way to think but while the sting on his cheek had faded, he could almost still feel it... just how much Ryuutaro was hurting. He hated it so much.

"I just want to stay like this..."

„In the middle of the kitchen?“, Ryuutaro questioned, even though he didn’t move himself, „I’m not sure if that’s a good idea...“
Which was mostly for the sole reason that he really didn’t want anybody to come in right now. Not because he’d be embarrassed to be found in this position, but because he just didn’t want to deal with people from this world.
He knew it from the Manor, the kitchen was just such a general meeting place. Everyone appeared there sooner or later to get water, bread, tea, fruits, cook, bake... or even just sit down and wait for things to happen.

He had to agree with Hayato though. He didn’t really want this to end right now, almost scared of it. But Hayato needed to rest... it was just so obvious.

Hayato squirms a bit uncomfortably- not about the position of course, but about Ryuutaro implying he wanted to separate.

"...J-just another minute, okay? Please?"

He knew he sounded childish... but he couldn't pull away right now. He couldn't. In fact, he wrapped his arms around Ryuutaro just a little tighter, silently begging him not to move.
